Latest company news about China will implement a new national standard for power batteries used in electric vehicles starting July 1, 2026

China will implement a new national standard for power batteries used in electric vehicles starting July 1, 2026.

The standard, titled Safety Requirements for Power Batteries Used in Electric Vehicles, is a mandatory national standard developed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). It includes seven single-cell tests and 17 battery pack or system tests, among other requirements.

MIIT stated that this revision primarily introduces new test items such as battery bottom impact testing and post-fast-charging cycle safety testing. It also strengthens safety requirements, including thermal propagation resistance, and raises the safety threshold from a 5-minute warning before fire or explosion to preventing ignition and explosion altogether. These measures aim to reduce the incidence of power battery spontaneous combustion at the design stage, further ensuring the safety of consumers' lives and property.
